This policy describes how MLA Format Generator handles information when you use its citation tool, paper formatter, and guides. The public website is intended as an independent educational resource.
Information collected by this site
The site does not require an account. Your hosting provider may process and log standard request information such as an IP address, browser user agent, time, requested path, and technical errors to deliver and protect the site. Hosting log retention depends on the provider’s settings. The site owner should review those settings before launch.
Essay and citation drafts
Your name, instructor, course, essay, and citation draft are processed in your browser and saved in that browser’s local storage so you can return to them on the same device. They are not posted to the website server by the paper editor. Use Clear draft to remove the saved draft on this browser. On a shared device, clear your draft when finished. Word files are generated in your browser; Google Docs is reached by downloading a file and uploading it yourself.
Source lookups
When you choose Quick lookup, the source URL, ISBN, or DOI you enter is sent in an HTTPS POST request to this website’s lookup endpoint. The server then requests public metadata from the source website or a relevant provider such as Open Library, Crossref, or YouTube. Those providers receive the server’s request, so do not submit a private URL or access key. Lookups are limited with temporary hashed IP counters held for about one hour. The endpoint does not accept essays or personal assignment fields.
Analytics, advertising, and cookies
This package includes no advertising scripts, third-party analytics, tracking pixels, or public-site cookies. Browser local storage is used for your draft; local storage is different from a cookie. If the site owner enables analytics or ads later, the owner must update this policy and the cookie notice before those services are switched on and add consent controls where required.
Security and retention
We use input limits, public-address checks for lookups, request limits, and browser security headers to reduce common risks. No online service can promise complete security. Browser drafts stay on your device until you clear them or your browser removes them. The site’s temporary lookup counters expire after about one hour. Provider-managed hosting logs may last longer under the provider’s settings.
Children and privacy requests
This educational site is not designed specifically for young children. Applicable privacy rights vary by location. For a draft saved on your device, use Clear draft or your browser storage controls. To ask about hosting logs or other site data, use the Contact page or email [email protected].
Changes
If the website’s technology or data practices change, this page should be updated with a new date. The site owner should review it before publishing.
